Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 28, 2026
This policy explains what happens to your files and your data when you use PDF Tools (https://filetools-ai.com). In short: most of our tools never send your documents anywhere, and we do not sell your personal information.
Your documents
The way your file is handled depends on which tool you use, and each tool states this on its own page.
Browser-based tools
Merge, split, compress, organize, extract, protect, watermark, page numbers, PDF to images, and images to PDF all run entirely inside your web browser using JavaScript. Your file is read from your disk into your browser's memory, processed on your own device, and offered back to you as a download. The file is never transmitted to our servers, and we never receive, see, or store a copy of it. You can verify this by opening your browser's developer tools and watching the network tab while you use a tool — no upload request is made.
Server-side conversions
Document format conversions (such as Office documents to PDF, or PDF to Word) cannot be done reliably in a browser, so when those tools are enabled the file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our conversion service. There, the file is written to a temporary working directory, converted, returned to you, and then deleted along with the converted output. We do not retain these files, do not back them up, and do not inspect their contents. Do not use these conversion tools for documents you are contractually or legally prohibited from transmitting to a third-party service.
Information we collect
We deliberately collect very little:
- No account required. There is no sign-up, so we hold no names, email addresses, or passwords unless you choose to email us.
- Technical request data. Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider records standard request information — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, browser user agent, and response status — for security, abuse prevention, and diagnosing errors. This is retained only briefly.
- No analytics profiling by us. We do not build advertising or behavioural profiles about you ourselves.
Cookies and advertising
This site is free to use and is supported by advertising. To do that we work with third-party advertising partners, and those partners set and read cookies or similar identifiers in your browser.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or youradchoices.com.
- Advertising partners may be independent data controllers for the data they collect. Their own privacy policies govern that processing — for Google, see the Google privacy & terms page.
Blocking cookies in your browser settings, or using an ad blocker, does not prevent the browser-based tools on this site from working. See our Cookie Policy for the full detail on the categories of cookies in use and how to control them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, or to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Because we do not operate user accounts, the personal data we hold about any individual visitor is minimal and generally not linkable to a person. If you believe we hold data about you and want to exercise a right, email us and we will respond as required by applicable law.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
International visitors
Our site is delivered from a global content-delivery network, so requests are served from a location near you and data may be processed in countries other than your own. Transfers are made using the safeguards required by applicable data protection law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our tools or advertising partners change. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date at the top of this page, so it is worth re-reading occasionally.
